Raufarhólshellir: ice stalagmites singing

Coming back to this place, where everything started, always makes me quite melancholic. By „everything” I mean not only first sounds of Noise From Iceland, but also my life in Iceland – here I’ve met wonderful people who pushed me forward and supported (and they still do). I’ve never felt so belonging before.  In the […]

Skógafoss bathed in ice

I can’t believe I have done it after so many years of sound recording in Iceland: I forgot to bring my windscreen also known as a „dead cat” or „my furry hard-working friend” as my family calls it. Therefore, it was impossible to do a good recordings, without wind blowing straight into the microphone. BUT […]

Raufarhólshellir

In Iceland we have about 700 lava tubes. Raufarholshellir is one of the longest and the biggest. 5200 years ago, during the eruption of Leiti (in Blafjall), flowing lava has built up this tunnel. The sound was collected during the winter, when the floor is covered with “ice stalagmites” that are singing in the raindrops.

Páskahellir – when the sun is dancing

I don’t know about you, but I need a little pause today. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I returned to the sound collected in July this year in the East Fjords of Iceland, in the cave on the shore of the ocean, Páskahellir. Legend has it that when you visit the cave on […]

Laugavegur Trail: Black desert

Right before entering the black desert of the Icelandic interior, we had to cross the glacial river and few other smaller streams. At that point, I did not know we are seeing the water for the last time – then next several hours of walking was just black sand and wind. I can say, that […]

Laugavegur Trail: Þorsmörk (Thorsmork)

One of my favorite sounds from the Laugavegur trail is this one. Going down to Þorsmörk, our last stop, we first heard birds, then we saw sheep. After spending two days in the wilderness of the Icelandic highlands, hearing and seeing the animals was downright touching. It also meant that we would reach our destination […]

The sound of Fagradalsfjall volcano – August 2022

In the meantime, you can also check out the sounds from the last year’s eruption – no drones and helicopters there 🙂 And the sound of flowing lava You probably wonder, what is the sound of the current eruption in Iceland. It is powerful, impressive and very pristine. I recorded it from the distance so […]

Háifoss: the third tallest waterfall in Iceland

One of the more difficult sounds to catch – the Háifoss waterfall in southwestern Iceland. To reach it, it takes two hours by car from Reykjavik, including a dozen or so minutes on a very bumpy road, and then eight kilometers by foot through the mountains *. Although, one would like to say, these are […]

Volcano in Iceland

I did it. I was there. With tears in my eyes because that was my dream. Flowing lava really sounds like broken glass. And, you hear, it was very close to people. The near-cosmic temperature, gas clogging the breath, could not be held there for long. This is the sound of a volcanic eruption in […]

Sound of Northern Lights in Iceland

The sky has gone mad. The forecasts proved correct and from around 10 pm the amazing aurora spectacle began, which quickly took over the entire sky. She was green, she was red, she was dancing, she was wearing a crown. It is difficult for me to describe how impressed I was with it and I […]
