It was so beautiful yesterday on the Sólheimajökull glacier, that today is like we came back from a different planet. Every time I want to bring back the feelings and memories I just listen to the sound from that place.
Sadly, Sólheimajökull is one of the fastest disappearing glaciers in Iceland. I can see with the naked eye the difference between how fast the glacier’s front is retreating. In years 2000-2015 it retreated by 973 meters and now it is losing its thickness for about 20 meters per year and melting about 60 meters per year! That means, since I first recorded it in 2020, there is 120 meters of the glacier less and Sólheimajökull is 40 meters weaker.
I think this is why the beauty of the glaciers feels so emotional to me. Because I know how little time we have to enjoy it.
