Driving along the rugged road 612 Örlygshafnarvegur in the Westfjords, we stumbled upon the Garðar BA 64 shipwreck. This old whaling ship, built in Norway in 1912 and later used in Iceland’s fishing industry, was grounded in 1981. Now, it stands as a fascinating relic of the past.

I was drawn to this old, rusting ship and wanted to capture its essence. Since I couldn’t get inside the wreck myself, I decided to place a microphone there to see how the stormy weather outside would sound from within.

The results were incredible. The wind and rain created an eerie, almost musical soundscape inside the ship. Listening to the recording, I felt like I was transported back in time, imagining all the storms this ship had faced.

This unique sound experience made me appreciate the Garðar BA 64 even more. It’s amazing how much history and emotion can be captured through sound. I’m thrilled with the results and now have a new connection to this piece of Icelandic history.
